What I’m Wearing to the Holiday Party

What I’m Wearing to the Holiday Party

One of the most highly anticipated makeup collaborations is dropping at the end of this month. Gareth Pugh's wildly dark and futuristic cosmetic collection will be available at MAC counters November 23rd and internationally in December. Pugh, an English designer, has been hailed for his "architectural genius" and as the "latest addition to a long tradition of fashion-as-performance-art that stretches back through Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, and Vivienne Westwood to the eighties club culture of Leigh Bowery." Impressive, considering the designer is just 31 years old. Since his runway debut in 2006, Pugh has experimented with radical shapes in a monochromatic palette which has amassed his brand a cult-like following.

Like his fashion label, the makeup comes in sleek, black geometric compacts. Lip shades range from grayed nude, to blackened berry, and lavender grey. Shadows come in a frosted gunmetal and a frosted burgundy. Limited-edition face powders will be available in translucent beige and a mid-toned nude. Nail varnishes include grayed nude, a grey with blue violet reflective pearl, and a deep blue with violet pearl--all are sure to be fast sellers. I'm beginning to find that nail polish is the new lipstick. As interesting manicures are becoming more popular.

I'm not sure how I am going to incorporate the sharp angular false eyelashes into a "look" for everyday,  perhaps a special occasion party (Ode Arts Night Out December?) but they are definitely on my list of "must-haves."
